Quilombo

“Quilombo” – roughly translated to English from Portuguese as a community organized by the formerly enslaved – tells the true story of Quilombo dos Palmares, a self-governed settlement of freed slaves in 17th century Brazil. The film positions the settlers' plight under a mythical and grounded spell in contrast to present-day Brazil.
