Denmark Vessey (Yaphet Kotto, in his usual greatness)– a formerly enslaved person who purchased his own freedom and later became a craftsman and preacher– risked everything to ensure other people were freed by planning a slave rebellion. The made-for-TV movie recounts his acts of immeasurable heroism brick by brick.
